1. Cover yourself with something, for example, pillows, mattress, blankets, sturdy tables, sturdy bench etc.
2. Place as much protection (barriers/walls) between you and the outside as possible.
3. Stay away from windows.
4. Seek shelter in a basement or lower floor of a house, away from windows (this place may be a closet or a hallway).
5. Avoid having a heavy object above you on the floor above, such as a fridge, oven etc.
6. Use something to protect your head, e.g. a bucket, saucepan.
7. Try to seek shelter somewhere other than your home if possible.
8. Good construction will help your home survive a tornado.
9. Cut weak branches and trees that could fall on your home.
